CCT, SDC, WRG volunteers and SVCC volunteers at work and play

SVCC relies on an increasing band of volunteers to keep the canal in good order and to continue the restoration of the canal. Our colleagues at the Cotswold Canal Trust and Stroud District Council’s canal team have many volunteering opportunities.

If you have time to spare and energy to share to assist in the maintenance and restoration of the Cotswold Canals then you can become a SVCC Lengths person or Lock keeper volunteer or a Cotswold Canal Trust or Stroud District Council Canal team volunteer.

We have much to do and need as many hands to help as we can attract. To achieve our aims we seek mainly enthusiastic volunteers, but if you have skills such as those below, these could also be of use to the project:

Labouring & landscape maintenance, bricklaying, structural construction, machinery maintenance & operation, project management, team leaders, planning, legal, health & safety, financial and professional engineering advice plus general administrative duties.

We also have a need for those with human resources expertise as well as retail, public relations, marketing and presentations experience.
For SVCC Lengths persons and Lock keeper volunteers we will provide training as well as a full kit. No previous experience required, just enthusiasm.

Camaraderie, Achievement & Fun

Since the 1970’s to the present day volunteers have undertaken many activities along the line of the Cotswold Canals. Volunteers often speak of the new friendships, fun and sense of achievement they enjoy. They also comment on the benefits of ‘healthy exercise with a purpose’. Canal work parties take place during the week and on occasional weekends.
SVCC Lengths persons and Lock keepers can carry out their duties during the week or on weekends, the choice is theirs.

New volunteers are always welcome!

You have several choices relating to volunteering enquiries and registration:

Give the CCT Admin Team a call to find out more (Phone: +44 (0)1453 752 568) or register on CCT's Connect website to find out where you could help. Connect is an online system that connects the work force to the work to be done. Once you have registered the Connect Webmaster will contact you with further information, including details of the Activity & Team Leaders responsible for activities you have shown interest in. The Team Leader will then invite you to come along to an activity or event.

If you are interested in SVCC Lengths person or Lock keeper volunteering please feel free to phone Les Richards on 07867907080. Click on these links for more information on these opportunities.
